Cave Tubing at Nohoch Che'en Caves Branch Nature Reserve is a relaxing tour through some lovely caves, with gorgeous formations and lots of Mayan pottery. It can be done by people of all ages.
This Tour leaves San Ignacio at 9ish and you'll be back around 4:30. Nohoch Che'en Caves Branch Nature Reserve is a little more than an hour form San Ignacio on the Western Highway. At the Trail head, you'll be given you tube, life-jacket and helmet, then it's a 45min hike, on which you'll get some history and you'll get to see some wild life and jungle (monkeys on occasion). If you go with Maximum Adventure Tours, you'll get a little bonus trip. There are some some springs just up stream in cave #5 and, in Crystal Cave, you'll get to see some pottery and gigantic formations, as well as go cliff jumping. The tour goes up there for a little walk about then you start heading down stream. The regular float takes you through Cave 1 and Cave 2. There are formations and limestone that looks like a wall of diamonds. The trip takes 2.5 - 3 hrs in the caves and another 20-30 min of floating through the jungle. There are no rapids, so it's good for people of all ages.
If you want to throw in something a little more exciting, right next to the tubing caves is a zipline course. This is a very cool way to see the jungle. It will add another hour and ten minutes to the tour.
